Mums and Bubs
Mums and Bubs classes have been an essential component to Thirroul Physiotherapy, catering for mothers with children aged from 6 weeks and older.
What do the classes entail?
We are providing a service that delivers safe and appropriate exercise following pregnancy. Each class is 60 minutes in length focusing on posture, pelvic floor, core activation, strengthening and stretching. Additionally, we deliver advice to progress you to higher intensity exercise as your body gets stronger.
The classes contain elements of Pilates, general strengthening exercises and low impact aerobic activity. Education on safe exercise and programs will also be provided. The class also involves mat work and strengthening exercises using exercise balls, therabands, weights and other equipment.
Why exercise after having a baby?
Whether you are looking to return to exercise or getting active for the first time, there are many benefits to keeping an active lifestyle after having a baby. These classes will particularly focus on:
- Restoring abdominal strength and tone
- Prevention of future incontinence by training your pelvic floor
- Improving posture and core strength to protect your back
Being active in general has many benefits, such as:
- Improving sleep quality
- Reducing stress, anxiety and depression
- Improving overall body strength
- Protecting from heart disease
- Reducing blood pressure and cholesterol
- Reducing the risk of diabetes
When can I start?
This may vary from person to person. Generally, at 4-6 weeks post pregnancy most of the acute changes that have occurred during the pregnancy have settled back to normal. From here, exercise can be resumed gradually.
For post C-sections, most wound healing will have occurred by the 6-8 week mark. Exercise can be resumed gradually with direction from your GP.

ACL Classes
About the Injury:
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is an essential component to knee function and stabilisation. Unfortunately sometimes through sport, work or everyday events, injuries to the ACL can occur. When this happens rehabilitation is essential to ensure optimal function is restored to the knee joint. In some instances surgical intervention may also be required and engagement in rehabilitation through strength based exercise is essential to aid recovery.
ACL Rehabilitation Classes:
Our ACL Classes at Thirroul Physiotherapy help you to achieve a full recovery following an ACL injury or reconstruction. Our classes are run by qualified Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists and aim to assist improvement in knee strength, range of movement, stability, balance and function. This is completed through a one hour weekly supervised gym class utilising a range of rehabilitation equipment. Each participant receives a personalised exercise program for you to use at home or at our fully equipped gym with no additional charge.
Benefits of ACL classes:
- Increased range of motion in lower limbs
- Improved strength and functionality of lower extremities
- Improved balance and proprioception
- Decreased risk of re-injury
- Decreased pain
- Enhanced technique and skillset with movement patterns
- Assistance with returning to sport
